Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) Down 5.5% — Time to Unwind the Position?
Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) closed at $325.84 on the NASDAQ on Friday, a $19.16 decline that extends a pullback that has been building for months. The stock now sits roughly 34.2% below its 52-week high of $495.00, reached on June 3, 2026. That gap has opened even though the company's reported growth has stayed exceptional, which shows how much the market has repriced AI-exposed semiconductor names since early summer.
Volume came in at about 22.75 million shares, essentially in line with the 90-day average of roughly 22.67 million. The selling was steady and broad rather than a volume spike tied to a single company event.
Why Broadcom Inc. Price is Moving Lower
Friday's decline was a sector story. Broadcom was swept up in a broad semiconductor and AI-infrastructure selloff. By about 15:22 UTC, AVGO was down 5.30%, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was off 9.42%, Nvidia (NVDA) had slipped 3.43%, Intel (INTC) had collapsed 28.03%, and the Nasdaq was down 2.32%. By the close, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. had fallen 10.88% and Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) had dropped 7.49%, so Broadcom's 5.55% loss was in line with the group rather than an outlier.
Two earnings reports set off the selling. On October 29, Intel guided Q4 revenue to $15 billion to $16 billion and adjusted EPS to $0.25, well short of analyst expectations near $17.1 billion and $0.43. Intel also warned that PC-market weakness could last into 2027. On Friday, Amazon (AMZN) reported an earnings miss and a second straight quarter of negative free cash flow, and it kept its 2026 capital-spending plan unchanged at $220 billion. That combination deepened investor concern about the cost of AI investment and the returns it will generate. For Broadcom, whose growth depends heavily on hyperscaler infrastructure budgets, any doubt about the payoff from those budgets hits the valuation directly.
Broadcom's own results remain strong, but the stock was already under scrutiny. Its most recent quarter, reported on September 2, delivered adjusted EPS of $3.32 against a $3.24 estimate and revenue of $29.59 billion against $29.36 billion expected. Revenue rose 86% year over year and adjusted EPS grew 96%. The weak spot was guidance: Q4 revenue forecast of $34.8 billion came in slightly below the $35.03 billion consensus, despite implying 93% growth. Analyst views have since diverged. William Blair downgraded AVGO from Outperform to Market Perform on October 27. On Friday, DA Davidson upgraded the stock to Buy and raised its price target to $400 from $350, but the upgrade did nothing to stop the sector-led drop.
What is the Broadcom Inc. Rating - Should I Sell?
Weiss Ratings assigns AVGO a B rating. Current recommendation is Buy. The rating rests on business fundamentals that remain among the strongest in large-cap semiconductors, and Friday's sector selloff does not change them.
Broadcom is rated Excellent on the Growth, Efficiency, and Solvency indices. Revenue growth of 85.50% is extraordinary for a company with a $1.65 trillion market cap, and it reflects how deeply its custom silicon and networking products are embedded in AI data center buildouts. The Excellent Efficiency Index rating is backed by a 42.94% profit margin and a 44.25% ROE. Those figures show that Broadcom's mix of high-value chips and recurring infrastructure software turns rapid growth into outsized earnings instead of letting it get absorbed by costs. The Excellent Solvency rating suggests the balance sheet can handle cyclical swings in customer spending without strain.
The picture is more measured on the market-facing dimensions. Broadcom is rated Fair on the Total Return Index, Volatility Index, and Dividend Index, and the reasons connect. A stock sitting about 34% below its June high has given back a large share of its earlier gains. Friday's 5.55% drop on concerns about AI spending returns shows why the Volatility Index is not rated higher, since sentiment shifts around hyperscaler capex can move this stock sharply in a single session. Valuation adds risk: a forward P/E of 44.04 leaves limited cushion if growth expectations cool. The 0.75% dividend yield is modest because the share price has outpaced the payout, which explains why the Dividend Index rating stays at Fair.
Within the Information Technology sector, Broadcom trails NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA, B+) and sits a notch above Micron Technology, Inc. (MU, B-), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD, B-), and Lam Research Corporation (LRCX, B-). That positioning supports Broadcom's place among the higher-quality names in the group. Friday's session was a reminder that a strong rating does not protect a stock from sector-wide drawdowns.
About Broadcom Inc.
Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) is an Information Technology company that designs, develops, and supplies a broad range of semiconductor and infrastructure software products. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, it serves hyperscale cloud operators, enterprise data centers, telecommunications carriers, smartphone makers, and large corporate IT departments around the world.
On the semiconductor side, Broadcom has become a central supplier to AI infrastructure. It designs custom AI accelerators for large cloud customers and supplies the high-bandwidth Ethernet switching silicon, including its Tomahawk and Jericho families, that connects large AI clusters. The company also provides broadband and set-top box chips, storage and server connectivity products, and wireless components such as RF filters used in premium smartphones. This breadth gives Broadcom exposure to both the fast-growing AI build-out and steadier legacy end markets.
The software business adds a recurring-revenue base that most chip peers lack. After acquiring VMware, Broadcom built its infrastructure software segment around VMware Cloud Foundation for private cloud deployments, alongside mainframe and enterprise software from the CA Technologies acquisition and Symantec's enterprise security portfolio. Its competitive advantages come from deep engineering relationships with the largest cloud customers, leadership in data center networking, and a disciplined approach to acquisitions and integration that has steadily widened margins across the portfolio.
Investor Outlook
Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) carries a Weiss Rating of B (Buy), but the stock's sensitivity to doubts about AI spending argues for a cautious approach to new positions while the sector resets. Investors should watch whether hyperscalers keep their capital-spending plans intact after the Amazon and Intel reports, and whether Broadcom's next quarter meets or beats the $34.8 billion revenue guidance that left the market slightly underwhelmed.
