Carrier Global Corporation (CARR) Down 4.7% — Time to Unwind the Position?

  • CARR fell 4.74% to $53.02 from $55.66 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns D+ (Sell)
  • Market cap is $45.30B with a dividend yield of 1.73%

Carrier Global Corporation (CARR) is under pressure this Thursday, last changing hands at $53.02 on the NYSE. That is a $2.64 decline from the prior close of $55.66. The slide leaves the stock roughly 30.9% below its 52-week high of $76.76, set on June 25, 2026. It now sits just 5.5% above the bottom of its 52-week range at $50.24. Less than five months after that peak, CARR is trading much closer to its lows than its highs.

Volume so far stands at about 3.19 million shares, roughly half the 90-day average of 6.24 million. With the regular session still open, the selling has been sharp in price terms but not yet heavy in turnover.

Why Carrier Global Corporation Price is Moving Lower

The broad market selloff is the clearest driver. A same-day market report showed the Dow down about 2.2%, the S&P 500 off about 2.8%, and the Nasdaq lower by about 3.9% as investors dumped riskier assets. The report pointed to worries about returns on AI spending and the prospect of tighter regulation of data-center projects. CARR's 4.7% decline is steeper than any of those index moves, which suggests concerns specific to HVAC are adding to the pressure.

Peer action supports that reading. Trane Technologies (TT) was down roughly 3% around midday, a smaller move than Carrier's but evidence of spillover across the climate-control group. Among broader Industrials names, Honeywell International Inc. (HON) fell 5.24% and The Boeing Company (BA) dropped 3.87%, so the selling reached well beyond a single company. Sentiment toward residential HVAC names was already fragile. Lennox (LII) recently cut the midpoint of its 2026 adjusted EPS outlook to $21.25 from $23.50 and cited lower realized prices, a warning that bears directly on Carrier's residential business.

The selloff is erasing what had been a solid quarter. On October 29, Carrier reported adjusted EPS of $0.87 against a $0.77 estimate, up 30% year over year. Revenue of $6.263 billion topped the roughly $6.10 billion consensus and grew 12%. Management raised 2026 sales guidance to $23.8 billion to $24.0 billion from about $23 billion. It also narrowed adjusted EPS guidance to $2.85 to $2.90 from about $2.90, effectively trimming the top end. A $3.1 billion goodwill impairment produced a reported GAAP loss of $3.16 per share. That charge muddies the earnings picture and leaves the stock with little cushion on a day like this.

What is the Carrier Global Corporation Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns CARR a D+ rating. The rating was downgraded on 10/30/2026. Current recommendation is Sell. The downgrade came one day after Q3 report. The timing suggests the $3.1 billion impairment and the narrowed earnings guidance outweighed the revenue beat in Weiss's assessment.

The strongest part of Carrier's profile is its balance sheet. The Good rating on the Solvency Index indicates the company can absorb a non-cash charge of that size without threatening its obligations, which matters for a capital-intensive equipment maker. The Fair rating on the Dividend Index fits a 1.73% yield that offers some income but too little to offset the stock's slide. Efficiency is also rated Fair. Underlying operations are productive enough to deliver 30% adjusted EPS growth, but the reported profit margin of -7.90% keeps that index from rating higher.

Where the picture weakens is growth and shareholder returns. The Weak rating on the Growth Index can look odd next to 12.26% annual revenue growth. However, trailing EPS of -$2.22 shows the impairment wiping out reported earnings, and quarterly revenue slipped 1.4%, from $6.35 billion in the June quarter to $6.26 billion in the September quarter. The Weak Total Return Index reflects what holders have actually lived through: a stock down more than 30% from its June high and now trading near its 52-week low. The Volatility Index is rated Fair rather than Weak. Even so, today's outsized drop during a market-wide risk-off session shows why that rating is not higher.

Within the Industrials sector, Carrier Global sits alongside Honeywell International Inc. (HON, D+) and The Boeing Company (BA, D+). It ranks ahead of Xylem Inc. (XYL, D) and Rocket Lab Corporation (RKLB, D-). That cluster of Sell-rated names reflects broad caution across the peer group, so a relative edge offers little reassurance.

About Carrier Global Corporation

Carrier Global Corporation (CARR) is an Industrials company that provides intelligent climate and energy solutions across the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific, and other international markets. The company reports through four segments: Climate Solutions Americas; Climate Solutions Europe; Climate Solutions Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa; and Climate Solutions Transportation. Incorporated in 2019 and headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Carrier serves both residential and commercial customers with heating, cooling, and ventilation solutions.

The portfolio covers air conditioners, heating systems, and heat pumps, along with home and building energy management systems and automation platforms. Carrier also earns recurring revenue from aftermarket components, repair and maintenance, rental services, and modernization projects for aging systems. Its transportation business sells refrigeration and monitoring products, services, and digital tools for trucks, trailers, shipping containers, and intermodal and rail applications. Those offerings keep temperature-sensitive cargo protected across global supply chains.

Carrier's main competitive strength is its brand roster, which spans multiple price points and customer types. It includes the Carrier, Bryant, Day & Night, and Heil names in residential HVAC, Viessmann and Toshiba internationally, Automated Logic and NORESCO in building controls and energy services, and Carrier Transicold and Sensitech in cold-chain logistics. The installed base built over decades supports a steady service and replacement stream. That scale does not protect the company from swings in housing activity, pricing pressure, or demand cycles in commercial construction.

Investor Outlook

Carrier Global Corporation (CARR) carries a Weiss Rating of D+ (Sell). A residential HVAC pricing warning from a key competitor, a large goodwill impairment, and a stock trading near its 52-week low all argue for caution until the outlook steadies. Investors should watch whether Carrier delivers on its adjusted EPS guidance of $2.85 to $2.90, whether residential pricing holds up after Lennox's cut, and whether the broad selloff tied to AI and data-center concerns eases or deepens.
