Coeur Mining, Inc. (CDE) Up 4.8% — Time to Get Exposure Before It Gaps?

  • CDE rose 4.78% to $15.28 from $14.58 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns C+ (Hold)
  • Market cap is $14.99B with a dividend yield of 0.14%

Coeur Mining, Inc. (CDE) is pushing higher on Friday, last changing hands at $15.28 on the NYSE —  up $0.70 from the prior close of $14.58. The 4.78% gain gives the stock a footing after a punishing stretch. CDE still sits roughly 45.0% below its 52-week high of $27.77, set on January 26, 2026. That gap leaves meaningful room for recovery if the company delivers on its full-year cash targets.

Volume stands at about 9.90 million shares so far in a session that is still open, compared with a 90-day average of roughly 34.51 million. The advance is coming on lighter turnover than the stock's recent norm.

Why Coeur Mining, Inc. Price is Moving Higher

The rally is a company-specific reassessment of Coeur's Q3 report. Investors are looking past a soft headline quarter and focusing on the cash the business is generating. The results, released on November 4, were mixed. Adjusted EPS came in at $0.10 against a pre-report estimate of $0.16, and revenue of $983.6 million fell short of the $1.01 billion consensus. GAAP net income dropped to $109.4 million from $266.8 million a year earlier. Two days of digestion, however, have shifted attention to what matters more for a miner of this scale: revenue up 77% year over year and quarterly free cash flow of $240.2 million, a 27% increase from the prior-year period.

Management's guidance carried the most weight. On the November 5 earnings call, Coeur reiterated that it expects 2026 adjusted EBITDA above $2 billion and free cash flow above $1.3 billion at current metal prices. Those targets are substantial against a $14.99 billion market cap. CIBC kept its Outperform rating while trimming its price target to $27 from $30. The firm cited a tough quarter but pointed to positive cash flow and a $1.2 billion cash balance. Even after the cut, the new target sits well above where CDE is trading today.

This is not a broad metals lift. Around 11:04 a.m. ET, peer Pan American Silver (PAAS) was down 0.69%, while gold and silver traded lower amid a firmer dollar and profit-taking. Within the Materials peer group, The Sherwin-Williams Company (SHW) slipped 1.33%. CDE is climbing against that backdrop because investors are rewarding the cash story. The known risks are being treated as temporary rather than structural. These include production tracking toward the low end of guidance, costs near the upper end, a conveyor failure at New Afton, and heavy rain at Rainy River and Palmarejo.

What is the Coeur Mining, Inc. Rating - Should I Buy?

Weiss Ratings assigns CDE a C+ rating. Current recommendation is Hold. The C+ reflects a company whose operating profile has transformed faster than its stock price has recovered. The ratings framework captures both sides of that tension.

The fundamental case starts with an Excellent rating on the Growth Index. That rating reflects revenue growth of 125.86%, a figure that shows how dramatically Coeur's expanded mine portfolio has scaled the top line. The 77% year-over-year revenue gain in the latest quarter confirms the expansion is still running. The Excellent Solvency Index rating fits a miner sitting on $1.2 billion in cash while guiding to more than $1.3 billion in annual free cash flow. That is a balance sheet built to absorb operational setbacks like the New Afton conveyor failure without strain. Efficiency is rated Good, backed by a 26.81% profit margin that is impressive for a producer with heavy fixed costs. The 12.85% ROE and the year-over-year decline in GAAP net income explain why that rating stops short of Excellent. A forward P/E of 12.04 against trailing EPS of $1.21 suggests the market is not pricing in much of the cash generation management has guided toward.

Where the picture becomes more nuanced is in the market-facing measures. The Total Return Index is rated Fair, which is understandable for a stock still trading roughly 45% below its January high even after today's gain. The Volatility Index is rated Weak. The slide from $27.77 to the mid-teens shows how sharply CDE can swing with metal prices and operating news. Today's 4.78% jump on an earnings reassessment is another example of that range. The Weak Dividend Index rating follows from a 0.14% yield. Coeur is a reinvestment and cash-accumulation story, not an income vehicle.

Within the Materials sector, Coeur sits alongside AngloGold Ashanti plc (AU, C+), which gained 4.46% today. It ranks ahead of The Sherwin-Williams Company (SHW, C) and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APD, C), and further ahead of Vale S.A. (VALE, C-) and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (SHECF, C-). That positioning puts Coeur near the top of this peer group on a risk-adjusted basis.

About Coeur Mining, Inc.

Coeur Mining, Inc. (CDE) is a Materials company focused on precious metals production. It mines, processes, and sells gold and silver from a portfolio of operations across North America. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the company has built its asset base through organic development and acquisitions. Its footprint spans the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The company's operating portfolio includes the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico and the Rochester silver-gold operation in Nevada. It also includes the Kensington gold mine in Alaska, the Wharf gold operation in South Dakota, and the high-grade Las Chispas silver-gold mine in Mexico. Coeur has also added the New Afton and Rainy River operations in Canada, broadening its production base and giving it greater exposure to gold. Together, these assets give Coeur a diversified mix of open-pit and underground mines. That diversification reduces dependence on any single site, which matters when weather or equipment issues hit individual operations.

Coeur's competitive position rests on its scale and its leverage to both gold and silver prices. Its operations sit in established, mining-friendly jurisdictions. The recent expansion of its asset base has turned the company into a substantial cash generator. That capacity supports continued exploration, mine optimization, and balance sheet flexibility. It also gives Coeur room to fund growth internally rather than relying on outside capital.

Investor Outlook

Coeur Mining, Inc. (CDE) carries a Weiss Rating of C+ (Hold), and today's rally shows investors are willing to look past a weak quarter when the cash flow outlook holds firm. The key markers to watch are whether Coeur delivers on its 2026 targets of more than $2 billion in adjusted EBITDA and more than $1.3 billion in free cash flow, and whether operations at New Afton, Rainy River, and Palmarejo normalize heading into 2027.
