Honeywell International Inc. (HON) Down 5.4% — Should I Accept This Outcome and Sell?

  • HON fell 5.36% to $216.22 from $228.47 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns D+ (Sell)
  • Market cap is $71.10B with a dividend yield of 3.50%

Honeywell International Inc. (HON) is retreating on Thursday, last changing hands at $216.22 on the NASDAQ. That is a $12.25 decline from the prior close of $228.47. The selloff extends a long slide for the shares, which now trade roughly 56.4% below the 52-week high of $496.36 set on March 2, 2026. A stock this far below its peak leaves little room for the market to give it the benefit of the doubt on a risk-off day.

Volume stands at about 1.58 million shares with the session still open, roughly half the 90-day average of 3.19 million. The decline so far has come on lighter-than-normal turnover, so the full-day picture will depend on how trading develops into the close.

Why Honeywell International Inc. Price is Moving Lower

The most plausible driver of today's decline is a sharp, broad market selloff rather than any new Honeywell-specific development. Weak Qualcomm (QCOM) results and concern that a Democrat-controlled Congress could slow AI infrastructure investment weighed heavily on equities. The Nasdaq is down 5.2%, the S&P 500 is down 3.4%, and the Dow has lost 2.2%. Semiconductor stocks led the damage with an 11% slide. Industrials were not spared. As of 11:00 a.m. ET, the Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 2.71%, Caterpillar (CAT) dropped 6.03%, and GE Aerospace (GE) was off 4.10%.

Honeywell was down 2.92% in the morning, and its decline has since steepened to roughly 5.4%. That move now runs ahead of the sector ETF, though it is in line with other large Industrials names. Carrier Global Corporation (CARR) is down 4.90% today and Honeywell Aerospace Inc. (HONA) is down 4.33%. Selling of that size across the group points to broad de-risking in cyclical and AI-linked industrial exposure rather than a fresh problem specific to Honeywell.

The company's most recent fundamental update gives little reason for a company-driven selloff. Honeywell reported Q3 results on October 22, 2026. Adjusted EPS came in at $2.27 against a $2.17 estimate, up 34% year over year. Revenue was the softer part of the report at $4.994 billion, slightly below the $5.01 billion consensus and up just 1%. Segment margin expanded sharply to 21.3% from 17.6%, and management raised 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $8.40–$8.45 from $8.05–$8.35. The earnings story is about profitability gains outpacing a flat top line. On a day when the market is cutting exposure across the board, that reliance on margins over sales growth offers limited protection.

What is the Honeywell International Inc. Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns HON a D+ rating. Current recommendation is Sell. The rating reflects a company whose operating quality is real but has not translated into returns for shareholders. On the Weiss framework, the weight of that poor price experience outweighs the strength of the underlying business.

The strongest parts of the profile are operational. The Excellent rating on the Efficiency Index is supported by a 37.44% return on equity and a 22.19% profit margin. Those figures stand out for a capital goods manufacturer exposed to cyclical industrial and building end markets. The third-quarter expansion in segment margin to 21.3% shows management is still extracting more profit from each dollar of sales. The Good rating on the Solvency Index adds to that picture, indicating a balance sheet that does not appear to be a source of near-term strain. A forward P/E of 9.57 suggests the market is pricing in considerable skepticism about how durable those earnings are.

Where the picture turns less favorable is growth and shareholder outcomes. The Fair rating on the Growth Index reflects revenue growth of just 1.32%, which matches the 1% top-line gain in the latest quarter. Honeywell is growing earnings largely through margins rather than demand, and that approach has natural limits. The Very Weak rating on the Total Return Index needs little explanation for a stock trading more than 56% below its 52-week high. The Weak Volatility Index is borne out by today's action: a market-wide risk-off session has knocked more than 5% off the shares, a steeper drop than the 2.71% decline in the sector ETF at midmorning. The Weak rating on the Dividend Index suggests the 3.50% yield should be read with caution. That yield is partly a product of a falling share price rather than a sign of a strong income profile.

Within the Industrials sector, Honeywell sits alongside The Boeing Company (BA, D+), Carrier Global Corporation (CARR, D+), and Honeywell Aerospace Inc. (HONA, D+). It ranks ahead of Xylem Inc. (XYL, D) and Rocket Lab Corporation (RKLB, D-), which fell 12.53% today. The clustering of these names in the D range points to a difficult risk/reward backdrop across much of the group, not a problem unique to Honeywell.

About Honeywell International Inc.

Honeywell International Inc. (HON) is an Industrials company and one of the longest-standing names in American industrial technology. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the company has reshaped its portfolio around automation, and its aerospace business now trades separately as Honeywell Aerospace Inc. The remaining company serves industrial, commercial building, and energy customers with a mix of hardware, software, and process technology designed to make facilities and plants run more efficiently and safely.

Its building automation business supplies building management systems, fire detection and life safety equipment, and security and access control products to commercial property owners and operators. On the industrial side, Honeywell provides the Experion process control platform, gas detection and safety equipment, and sensing and productivity tools such as barcode scanners and mobile computers used in warehouses and logistics operations. Its process technology business, built around the long-established UOP franchise, licenses refining, petrochemical, and gas-processing technologies and supplies catalysts and adsorbents to energy producers worldwide. The Honeywell Forge software platform ties these offerings together with analytics and performance-management tools for industrial and building operators.

Honeywell's competitive advantages come from a large installed base, deep engineering expertise, and long customer relationships in markets where reliability and safety certification matter. Much of its equipment is embedded in mission-critical systems, which creates recurring demand for service, upgrades, software, and replacement parts. That installed-base model supports the margins the company has been expanding. It does not shield Honeywell from swings in industrial capital spending, energy investment cycles, or broader shifts in investor appetite for cyclical stocks.

Investor Outlook

Honeywell International Inc. (HON) carries a Weiss Rating of D+ (Sell). Strong efficiency and a raised earnings outlook are offset by flat revenue, very weak shareholder returns, and shares that remain highly sensitive to market-wide selloffs like today's. Investors should watch whether revenue growth can improve beyond the 1% pace of the latest quarter, and whether the company delivers on its raised $8.40–$8.45 adjusted EPS guidance as the broader market works through concerns about AI infrastructure spending.
