Insulet Corporation (PODD) Down 6.2% — Is It Time to Move On?
Insulet Corporation (PODD) is under pressure on Friday, last changing hands at $146.37 on the NASDAQ, down $9.75 from the prior close of $156.12. The decline extends a long slide for the insulin pump maker. PODD now trades roughly 58.8% below its 52-week high of $354.88, reached on November 20, 2025, which means the stock has lost more than half its value in less than a year.
Volume stands at about 236,319 shares so far in the session, compared with a 90-day average of roughly 1.60 million. That puts intraday turnover at about 15% of a typical full day with the regular session still open.
Why Insulet Corporation Price is Moving Lower
The decline comes from Insulet's own outlook, not the broader tape. U.S. stocks rebounded in Friday morning trading, with the S&P 500 up about 1.1% and the Nasdaq up 1.8%, so PODD is falling against a rising market. The pressure traces back to the company's November 4 earnings call. Management said 2027 total-company growth may come in modestly below its prior mid-teens framework. It expects U.S. growth toward the low end of its earlier 9%–14% range and a meaningful slowdown internationally. Management pointed to tougher comparisons, less international price and product mix benefit, product-launch timing, and new competitors. It also said it expects to give up a couple of share points to new entrants, which is the detail most likely to unsettle a market that has valued Insulet as a share-gaining growth story.
The weaker outlook overshadowed a strong quarter. Q3 adjusted EPS came in at $1.99 against a $1.59 consensus estimate, up 60% from $1.24 a year earlier. Revenue reached $842 million versus the $832.98 million expected, a 19.2% year-over-year increase, and net income rose to $141.1 million from $87.6 million. Insulet also raised its 2026 revenue growth outlook to 21%–22% from 20%–22% and kept adjusted EPS growth guidance above 30%. None of that offset the main concern: the company's own preliminary 2027 view points to slower growth and an erosion of competitive position.
Some medical technology names are also weak. Guardant Health, Inc. (GH) is down 4.85% and Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX) has slipped 3.06%. PODD's 6.24% drop is steeper than either, and with major indexes higher, the weight of the move rests on Insulet's guidance rather than any sector-wide retreat.
What is the Insulet Corporation Rating - Should I Sell?
Weiss Ratings assigns PODD a D+ rating. Current recommendation is Sell. The rating does not say Insulet is a weak business. It says the stock's risk profile and recent performance have outweighed what the underlying operations are producing.
The operating fundamentals are strong. The Excellent rating on the Growth Index is supported by 23.51% revenue growth, an unusual pace for a company of Insulet's scale in a mature diabetes device market, and backed again by the 19.2% top-line increase in the latest quarter. The Excellent Efficiency Index rating reflects a 26.02% return on equity and a 12.29% profit margin. Those figures show that adoption of the Omnipod platform is now turning into real earnings, which a single quarter of net income rising from $87.6 million to $141.1 million makes plain. The Solvency Index is also rated Excellent, so the balance sheet is not the problem as Insulet prepares to defend share against new competitors.
The weaker ratings come from what shareholders have actually experienced. The Weak Total Return Index rating reflects a stock that has fallen nearly 59% from its November 2025 peak despite steady operating gains. That gap shows how much of the earlier valuation rested on expectations that are now being reset. The Weak rating on the Volatility Index follows from the same problem: a 6.24% single-session drop on a guidance revision, on a day when the broader market is rising, shows how sharply PODD reacts to any sign that its growth path is flattening. With the stock still trading at about 30.84 times forward earnings, a premium multiple remains exposed to further disappointment if 2027 growth or market share slips further. These two indices are the main reason the overall rating sits at D+ despite three Excellent fundamental ratings.
Within the Health Care sector, Insulet is on par with Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX, D+) and Coloplast A/S (CLPBF, D+). It ranks just above Medline Inc. (MDLN, D) and ahead of Guardant Health, Inc. (GH, D-) and Glaukos Corporation (GKOS, D-). The peer group points to broad caution across the medical device space, so Insulet's relative position offers limited reassurance.
About Insulet Corporation
Insulet Corporation (PODD) is a Health Care company in the Health Care Equipment and Services industry. Headquartered in Acton, Massachusetts, it develops, manufactures, and sells insulin delivery systems for people with diabetes. Its core franchise is the Omnipod platform, a tubeless, wearable insulin pump that sticks directly to the body and is controlled wirelessly. This removes the tubing and separate pump unit that traditional insulin pumps require.
The flagship product is the Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System, which works with continuous glucose monitors to adjust insulin dosing automatically from real-time glucose readings. Insulet also markets the Omnipod DASH Insulin Management System. It has pushed into the type 2 diabetes population, a far larger patient base than type 1, with products such as Omnipod GO for people who need basal insulin. The company sells across the United States and a growing list of international markets, and international expansion has been a meaningful contributor to its recent growth.
Insulet's main competitive advantage is its distribution model and form factor. By selling Omnipod largely through the pharmacy channel rather than the traditional durable medical equipment route, the company has made pump therapy easier to obtain and has lowered upfront costs for patients. That, combined with the convenience of a tubeless, disposable pod, has helped Insulet win share from traditional tubed pumps. Recurring pod replacement produces a steady, repeatable revenue stream tied to the installed user base. The company has acknowledged that new entrants are now targeting the same opportunity, which will test how durable those advantages are.
Investor Outlook
Insulet Corporation (PODD) carries a Weiss Rating of D+ (Sell). Strong recent results are now running into a guidance reset that points to slower growth and modest share losses in 2027. Investors should watch whether U.S. growth holds above the low end of the 9%–14% range, how quickly new competitors take share, and whether product-launch timing supports the outlook when formal 2027 guidance arrives.
