Nebius Group N.V. (NBIS) Down 9.8% — Should I Abandon the Position?

  • NBIS fell 9.81% to $186.56 from $206.86 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns C- (Hold)
  • Market cap is $56.70B

Nebius Group N.V. (NBIS) is under heavy pressure in today's session, last trading at $186.56 on the NASDAQ —  a $20.30 decline from the prior close of $206.86. The drop extends a steep retreat from the stock's 52-week high of $299.86, set on June 22, 2026. NBIS now trades roughly 37.8% below that peak, giving back a large share of the gains that carried it to the top of its range less than four months ago.

Volume stands at about 22.88 million shares, compared with a 90-day average of roughly 19.48 million. That is about 17% above normal turnover with the session still in progress, which points to active selling rather than a thin-market drift lower.

Why Nebius Group N.V. Price is Moving Lower

Today's decline is best explained by a broad selloff in AI infrastructure stocks, as investors reassess the cost and risk of financing the data-center buildout. CNBC reported that CoreWeave (CRWV) shares fell 16% after yields on its unsecured bonds due in 2032 and 2031 climbed to 14.8% and 14.9%. Oracle (ORCL) dropped nearly 7% and Dell (DELL) fell 10% as lenders demanded more compensation for AI-related borrowing. The pressure reached the wider market as well, with the Nasdaq Composite down 1.4%. NBIS's traditional Communication Services peers were far calmer by comparison. Netflix (NFLX) slipped just 0.18% and AppLovin (APP) fell 3.55%, which shows that the selling was concentrated in capital-hungry AI infrastructure names rather than spread evenly across the sector.

Macro data added to the strain. September core CPI rose 2.6% year over year against a 2.5% expectation, and the two-year Treasury yield climbed above 4.89%. Higher rate expectations raise the hurdle for any company funding expansion with outside capital, and few companies in this group have funding needs as large as Nebius's.

That funding requirement is the reason NBIS is so exposed to today's financing concerns. The company's most recent quarter, reported on August 12, was a clear operating beat. Revenue reached $582.3 million against LSEG's $572.75 million estimate, up 454% from $105.1 million a year earlier, and the adjusted loss of $0.12 per share was far narrower than the expected $0.67 loss and the $0.38 loss a year earlier. Management reaffirmed 2026 revenue guidance of $3.0 billion to $3.4 billion. It also held capital spending guidance at $20 billion to $25 billion, after quarterly capex of $5.7 billion ran well above analysts' $4.7 billion estimate. A spending plan several times the size of annual revenue depends on access to affordable capital, and today the market is questioning how affordable that capital will stay.

What is the Nebius Group N.V. Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns NBIS a C- rating. Current recommendation is Hold. The C- reflects a company with real strengths in its balance sheet and its record of shareholder returns, offset by an earnings profile that has not caught up with its revenue growth.

The firmest supports for the rating are the Excellent marks on the Solvency Index and the Total Return Index. The Solvency rating matters most on a day like today. Peers are being repriced on the strength of their credit, so a well-rated balance sheet gives Nebius more room to fund a $20 billion to $25 billion capex year than lower-quality borrowers have. The Excellent Total Return rating reflects how much holders have gained over the measurement period. Even after today's drop, the shares sit at a level that rewarded investors who were in before the run toward June's $299.86 high.

Where the picture becomes more nuanced is in the operating metrics. The Weak rating on the Growth Index can look odd next to 454.04% revenue growth, but the rating weighs more than the top line. EPS of -$0.18 and a forward P/E of -1,175.34 show that profits have not yet followed sales, and that gap is the main weakness for a company spending at this pace. The Weak Efficiency Index tells a similar story. A 0.60% ROE and a 3.12% profit margin mean the capital already deployed is producing very little profit, and returns could stay thin as tens of billions more go into data centers before that capacity earns revenue. The Volatility Index is rated Fair, which allows for a stock that has already given back about 37.8% from its peak. Today's nearly 10% drop on AI financing fears shows why the rating is not higher.

Within the Communication Services sector, Nebius trails Netflix, Inc. (NFLX, C+) and Spotify Technology S.A. (SPOT, C+). It also sits below The Walt Disney Company (DIS, C) and AppLovin Corporation (APP, C). Those companies have more established earnings, which gives them steadier risk/reward profiles in the Weiss framework than a business still early in a capital-intensive buildout.

About Nebius Group N.V.

Nebius Group N.V. (NBIS) is an Amsterdam-headquartered technology company classified within the Communication Services sector. Its core business is building and operating AI infrastructure. Through its Nebius AI cloud platform, the company provides GPU compute clusters, cloud services, and developer tools to customers training and running artificial intelligence models, from AI-native startups to large technology companies. The company emerged from the restructuring of the former Yandex N.V. and has positioned itself as a specialized "neocloud" provider, focused on AI workloads rather than general-purpose cloud computing.

Beyond its flagship cloud business, Nebius holds a portfolio of related ventures. These include Avride, which develops autonomous driving and delivery robot technology, and TripleTen, an education platform that retrains people for careers in tech. The company has also held interests in data services and open-source database businesses, which gives it optional value outside the core infrastructure operation.

Nebius's competitive position rests on its in-house engineering talent, its experience designing hardware and data centers, and its ability to bring large blocks of GPU capacity online quickly. Its data-center footprint spans Europe and the United States, and long-term capacity agreements with major hyperscale customers support its revenue visibility. Those strengths come with heavy capital needs. The company competes with specialized rivals such as CoreWeave and with the large public cloud providers, so its expansion requires continuous investment in chips, power, and facilities.

Investor Outlook

Nebius Group N.V. (NBIS) carries a Weiss Rating of C- (Hold), and today's financing-driven selloff makes the cost of capital as important to watch as the revenue trajectory. Investors should track whether Nebius stays within its $3.0 billion to $3.4 billion revenue guidance while keeping capex within the $20 billion to $25 billion plan. It is also worth watching whether borrowing costs across AI infrastructure stabilize after the jump in CoreWeave's bond yields.
