Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) Down 5.1% — Should I Exit Before Things Get Worse?

  • PLTR fell 5.10% to $186.41 from $196.42 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns B- (Buy)
  • Market cap is $472.01B

Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) is ceding ground in today's session last trading at $186.41 on the NASDAQ —  a $10.01 decline from the prior close of $196.42. The pullback extends a retreat from recent highs. PLTR now trades roughly 12.5% below its 52-week high of $212.94, a level the stock reached only on October 12, 2026. Less than three weeks later, a meaningful share of that late-season advance has been given back.

Volume is running light relative to the stock's typical activity, with about 10.72 million shares traded so far against a 90-day average of roughly 33.54 million. With the regular session still open, turnover stands at roughly a third of a normal full day.

Why Palantir Technologies Inc. Price is Moving Lower

The most plausible driver of today's decline is a broad selloff in technology and AI-related stocks. Investors are questioning whether the industry's heavy AI spending can generate adequate returns. Amazon (AMZN) fell 7.4% in premarket trading after reporting quarterly revenue of $201.94 billion against the $202.22 billion expected and earnings of $1.89 per share versus the $1.96 consensus. Amazon also maintained roughly $220 billion in 2026 capital spending while posting negative $42.4 billion in trailing-12-month free cash flow, which sharpened concerns about how much AI investment the market will tolerate. Intel (INTC) dropped 25% after guiding Q4 revenue to $15 billion to $16 billion, well short of the $17.29 billion analyst consensus. Nasdaq-100 futures were down more than 2% as the session opened, according to Schwab's market update.

Palantir's software peers are also lower, though the damage there has been more contained. Fortinet, Inc. (FTNT) is down 2.89% and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) is off 1.43%. PLTR's sharper decline reflects its standing as one of the market's most richly valued AI names. A forward P/E of 169.37 leaves little room for any shift in sentiment toward AI returns, and stocks priced on years of future growth tend to absorb the heaviest selling when that debate intensifies.

Palantir also has its own earnings report ahead, scheduled for November 2, and expectations are high. Analysts are looking for about $2.17 billion in revenue, up roughly 84% year over year, against company guidance of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion, along with adjusted EPS of $0.41. The prior quarter, reported on August 3, set a demanding standard. Revenue reached $1.935 billion against the $1.80 billion estimate, up 93% year over year, and adjusted EPS of $0.41 topped the $0.35 consensus. Management then raised full-year revenue guidance to $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion. With consensus already sitting at the top of guidance, even strong growth may need to clear an elevated bar, and some investors appear unwilling to carry that risk into the print during a risk-off session.

What is the Palantir Technologies Inc. Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns PLTR a B- rating. Current recommendation is Buy. The rating reflects a business with exceptional operating fundamentals, held back by a stock that has proven prone to sharp swings. Today's decline is more a test of that tension than a challenge to the underlying thesis.

The fundamental case is strong. The Excellent rating on the Growth Index is supported by revenue growth of 92.83%, an extraordinary pace for a company with a market value above $470 billion, and one that shows commercial and government adoption of its AI platforms is still accelerating rather than maturing. Profitability is equally notable. A 49.00% profit margin and a 38.10% ROE support the Excellent Efficiency Index rating. Those figures show Palantir now converts its software sales into earnings at a level few enterprise software companies reach, a sharp change from its earlier years of heavy losses. The Excellent rating on the Solvency Index completes the picture of a company financing its expansion from internal strength rather than outside capital.

Where the picture becomes more nuanced is in the market-based measures. Palantir is rated Good on the Total Return Index, which reflects the substantial gains that carried the stock to $212.94 earlier this month. The rating stops short of Excellent because the shares are now trading roughly 12.5% below that peak. The Weak Volatility Index is the clearest constraint on the overall rating. Today's 5.10% drop, driven by a sector-wide reassessment of AI spending rather than any change in Palantir's own results, shows how heavily the stock trades on sentiment. A forward P/E near 170 magnifies every move in that sentiment, and that volatility is the main reason the rating sits at B- rather than higher.

Within the Information Technology sector, Palantir is on par with Microsoft Corporation (MSFT, B-). It trails Fortinet, Inc. (FTNT, B), Zoom Communications, Inc. (ZM, B), and VeriSign, Inc. (VRSN, B), each of which carries a slightly stronger risk/reward profile in Weiss's framework, largely because of steadier trading behavior.

About Palantir Technologies Inc.

Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) is an Information Technology company operating within the Software and Services industry. It builds data integration and analytics platforms that help large organizations make operational decisions from complex, fragmented information. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the company serves two main customer groups: government agencies, particularly defense and intelligence organizations in the United States and allied nations, and commercial enterprises across manufacturing, energy, healthcare, financial services, and other industries.

The company's product portfolio is built around several core platforms. Gotham, its original offering, supports government and defense users in intelligence analysis and mission planning. Foundry serves commercial customers by linking their data into a single operational layer for analysis and decision-making. Apollo manages continuous software delivery across cloud, on-premises, and classified environments. The Artificial Intelligence Platform, known as AIP, deploys large language models and other AI tools directly into customers' operations, and it has become the main engine behind the company's recent commercial acceleration.

Palantir's competitive advantages come from deep relationships with government customers, security credentials that are difficult and slow for rivals to replicate, and a platform architecture that becomes more valuable as customers connect more of their data and workflows to it. Its approach of embedding engineers alongside clients to build production deployments creates high switching costs once a system is in place. That position still faces competition from hyperscale cloud providers and specialized AI vendors pursuing the same enterprise budgets.

Investor Outlook

Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) carries a Weiss Rating of B- (Buy), supported by elite growth and profitability but tempered by a valuation that leaves the stock exposed to swings in AI sentiment. The November 2 report is the key near-term test. Investors should watch whether revenue clears the roughly $2.17 billion consensus and whether management again raises its $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion full-year guidance, while keeping in mind that broader doubts about AI spending returns can pressure the shares even if results are strong.
