United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) Up 4.6% — Time to Position for More Upside?

  • UPS rose 4.57% to $104.90 from $100.32 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns C- (Hold)
  • Market cap is $85.35B with a dividend yield of 6.54%

United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) is rallying on Tuesday, last changing hands at $104.90 on the NYSE, up $4.58 from the prior close of $100.32. The move pushes the stock well clear of the $100 mark and narrows the gap to its 52-week high of $122.41, set on February 12, 2026. UPS still trades about 14.3% below that peak, which leaves plenty of room for a recovery if the momentum from today's results carries forward.

Volume has reached 5,375,061 shares with the session still open, already about 10% above the 90-day average of 4,864,566. Buyers have clearly stepped in, and turnover is on track to finish well above normal.

Why United Parcel Service, Inc. Price is Moving Higher

The driver is UPS's own Q3 report, which beat Wall Street on both lines and came with a higher full-year outlook. Adjusted EPS came in at $1.69 against the $1.63 consensus. Revenue reached $22.9 billion, ahead of the $22.29 billion estimate and up 6.7% year over year. Growth was broad, with revenue rising in all three operating segments. Healthcare revenue topped $3 billion for the third consecutive quarter, which shows that one of UPS's highest-value growth bets is now a consistent contributor rather than a one-quarter spike.

The raised guidance gave the beat staying power. UPS lifted its full-year revenue outlook from $91.2 billion to $92.6 billion and its adjusted EPS forecast from $7.22 to $7.28. It also raised adjusted operating-profit guidance from $8.65 billion to $8.75 billion. For Q4, management expects revenue of about $25.7 billion and adjusted operating profit of about $3.3 billion. That sets up the peak holiday shipping season as the next test of whether the improved trajectory holds.

This is a company-specific rally, not a sector tide. FedEx Corporation (FDX) is up 2.00% and Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (ODFL) has gained 1.99%, respectable moves that still amount to less than half of UPS's 4.57% advance. Investors are also looking past some soft spots in the year-over-year numbers. Adjusted EPS slipped from $1.74 a year ago to $1.69, and adjusted operating margin narrowed from 10.0% to 9.0%. The market is clearly rewarding the beat, the top-line growth, and the higher forecasts, and betting that the revenue gains will eventually show up in margins.

What is the United Parcel Service, Inc. Rating - Should I Buy?

Weiss Ratings assigns UPS a C- rating. Current recommendation is Hold. That rating balances a high-quality operating business against a stock that has been difficult to own over the past year. Today's results address several of the concerns behind it.

The core of the business rates very well. UPS is rated Excellent on the Efficiency Index, supported by a 29.60% return on equity. That is a standout figure for a capital-heavy logistics operator running aircraft fleets, sorting hubs, and a vast ground network. The Excellent rating on the Solvency Index gives the balance sheet strength to fund that network through a margin reset without strain. Together, these two ratings describe a company with real staying power.

Where the picture becomes more nuanced is growth and shareholder returns. The Growth Index is rated Weak even though revenue rose 7.60%, because profits have not kept pace with sales. Adjusted EPS fell year over year in the third quarter, operating margin gave up a full percentage point, and the trailing profit margin sits at just 5.08%. The Weak ratings on the Total Return Index and the Volatility Index reflect a stock still about 14.3% below its February high. Today's earnings-driven 4.57% swing also shows how sharply shares react to each quarterly print.

The Dividend Index is rated Fair. The 6.54% yield is generous, but the annual payout it implies runs above trailing EPS of $5.37, so the dividend is not yet comfortably covered by current earnings. The raised $7.28 adjusted EPS outlook is a step toward closing that gap. At a forward P/E of 18.68, investors who believe margins will recover are being paid well to wait.

Within the Industrials sector, UPS trails FedEx Corporation (FDX, C+), Delta Air Lines, Inc. (DAL, C+), and Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (ODFL, C). That gap also points to the upside: sustained earnings beats and margin stabilization are the factors most likely to lift UPS toward its higher-rated peers.

About United Parcel Service, Inc.

United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) is an Industrials company and one of the largest package delivery and logistics providers in the world. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, UPS moves millions of packages every business day across more than 200 countries and territories. It operates through U.S. Domestic Package, International Package, and Supply Chain Solutions segments. Its service portfolio runs from time-definite air offerings such as UPS Next Day Air and UPS Worldwide Express to cost-efficient ground delivery through UPS Ground. Customers include large enterprises, small businesses, and individual consumers.

Beyond parcel delivery, UPS has built a growing presence in higher-margin specialty logistics. UPS Healthcare provides temperature-controlled storage, cold-chain transport, and compliance-sensitive distribution for pharmaceutical, medical device, and laboratory customers. That business has now produced more than $3 billion in quarterly revenue three quarters in a row. The company also offers freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and contract logistics. Its retail network, anchored by The UPS Store, gives it a physical footprint for shipping, returns, and small-business services.

UPS's competitive advantages come from its integrated global network. Few rivals can match its owned air fleet, hub infrastructure, ground delivery capacity, and decades of operating data. This scale lets UPS move volume at densities smaller carriers cannot replicate. It also supports long-term relationships with enterprise shippers that depend on reliability, tracking technology, and end-to-end visibility across complex supply chains.

Investor Outlook

UPS's Q3 beat and raised guidance give investors a credible reason to revisit a C- (Hold) stock that pays a 6.54% yield and trades well below its February high. The key items to watch are whether the company delivers the roughly $25.7 billion in Q4 revenue and $3.3 billion in adjusted operating profit it has guided to, and whether adjusted operating margin can climb back from 9.0% toward last year's 10.0% level.
