Zebra Technologies Corporation (ZBRA) Down 10.2% — Is It Time to Protect Capital?

  • ZBRA fell 10.21% to $324.26 from $361.13 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns C+ (Hold)
  • Market cap is $17.09B

Zebra Technologies Corporation (ZBRA) is under heavy pressure on Tuesday, last trading at $324.26 on the NASDAQ. That is a $36.87 drop from the prior close of $361.13 and a 10.21% decline that erases a large share of the stock's recent advance. The reversal is sharp because it comes so soon after a peak. Zebra set its 52-week high of $392.78 on October 21, 2026, just two weeks ago, and the current price now sits roughly 17.4% below that level.

Volume has reached about 614,770 shares with the session still open, already close to the 90-day average of roughly 649,691. Turnover is on pace to finish well above a typical day.

Why Zebra Technologies Corporation Price is Moving Lower

The selloff traces directly to Zebra's Q3 2026 report. Investors looked past the headline beats and focused on a contraction in gross margin. Adjusted EPS came in at $4.95 against $4.89 estimate, and revenue reached $1.614 billion versus the $1.57 billion expected. On a year-over-year basis, adjusted EPS rose 27.6% and revenue grew 22.3%. Those figures would normally support the stock. The problem sat one line lower. Gross margin fell to 45.7% from 48.0%, a 2.3-percentage-point decline that Zebra attributed mainly to higher memory-component costs and business mix. Adjusted EBITDA margin held at 21.6%, so the damage was concentrated in gross margin, but that is exactly where investors look for evidence of pricing power in a hardware business.

The peer tape shows the same pressure from the other side. Sandisk Corporation (SNDK) is up 5.80% today and Western Digital Corporation (WDC) has gained 3.93%. Strength in memory and storage names lines up with the input-cost pressure Zebra just flagged: what supports memory suppliers' pricing is a cost for a company that builds memory into mobile computers, scanners and printers. Elsewhere in Information Technology, Corning Incorporated (GLW) is up 4.18%. That makes ZBRA's decline a company-specific repricing rather than a sector retreat.

The forward outlook did little to change the market's view. Q4 adjusted EPS guidance of $5.00 to $5.40 carries a $5.20 midpoint, essentially in line with analyst forecasts of about $5.18 to $5.21. Expected revenue of about $1.65 billion topped the roughly $1.60 billion consensus. Zebra also raised its full-year outlook and forecast at least $1 billion in free cash flow. Those positives were not enough to offset concern that memory costs could keep squeezing margins into 2027. The stock had run to a record just before the report, so there was little room for a quarter that beat on volume but slipped on profitability per unit sold.

What is the Zebra Technologies Corporation Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns ZBRA a C+ rating. Current recommendation is Hold. The rating sits at the upper edge of the Hold range. It reflects a business with solid operating fundamentals and a respectable return record, held back by a share price that can move violently when results disappoint. Today's double-digit drop on a quarter that beat estimates illustrates that tension.

The fundamental case is the stronger half of the profile. The Excellent rating on the Growth Index is supported by 20.42% revenue growth. That is a notable pace for a company whose core products are rugged handhelds, barcode scanners and label printers, which are normally replacement-cycle businesses. The third quarter's 22.3% top-line increase shows the expansion is still running. The Good rating on the Efficiency Index reflects a 15.29% ROE and a 9.21% profit margin. Those returns are healthy, but they are not elite, and Q3 gross margin decline helps explain why efficiency stops short of Excellent. The Good Solvency Index points to a balance sheet that can absorb component inflation without strain, a view reinforced by management's forecast of at least $1 billion in free cash flow. The Good rating on the Total Return Index reflects the climb to $392.78 in late October, even after today's giveback.

The picture becomes more cautious on the Volatility Index, which is rated Weak. A 10.21% single-session decline triggered by a 2.3-point margin miss shows how quickly sentiment can turn for this stock. With a forward P/E of 33.05 against trailing EPS of $10.93, the shares carry a valuation that leaves little room for cost surprises. That premium magnifies moves in both directions. The Volatility Index is the main reason the overall rating stays at C+ rather than reaching Buy territory.

Within the Information Technology sector, Zebra is on par with Arista Networks, Inc. (ANET, C+), Western Digital Corporation (WDC, C+) and Corning Incorporated (GLW, C+). It ranks slightly ahead of Keyence Corporation (KYCCF, C). The clustering of ratings suggests ZBRA's risk/reward profile is typical of its peer group rather than a standout in either direction.

About Zebra Technologies Corporation

Zebra Technologies Corporation (ZBRA) is an Information Technology company in the Technology Hardware and Equipment industry. It builds the devices and software that let businesses track inventory, assets and people in real time. Headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, Zebra is best known for its rugged mobile computers and handheld barcode scanners, which are fixtures in warehouses, retail stores, hospitals and distribution centers. The company also makes thermal barcode and label printers and RFID readers and tags, and it sells the consumable supplies that run through its printers, which generate recurring revenue tied to customer usage.

Zebra organizes its business around two areas. The asset intelligence and tracking side covers printers, supplies, RFID and location solutions. The enterprise visibility and mobility side spans mobile computing, data capture, machine vision and workflow software. In recent years Zebra has pushed into fixed industrial scanning, machine vision and automation, as well as touch-enabled computing and workforce management software. The goal is to embed itself more deeply in customer operations rather than sell standalone hardware. Its core end markets are retail and e-commerce, transportation and logistics, manufacturing and healthcare, all sectors where labor productivity and inventory accuracy drive spending decisions.

Zebra's competitive advantages come from its large installed base, long-standing relationships with major retailers and logistics operators, and a broad channel partner network. Because enterprise customers standardize on its devices and integrate them with their software, refresh cycles tend to keep business with Zebra. These strengths do not shield the company from component cost inflation, as the memory-driven gross margin pressure in the latest quarter shows. They also do not protect it from cyclical swings in customer capital budgets.

Investor Outlook

Zebra Technologies Corporation (ZBRA) carries a Weiss Rating of C+ (Hold). Today's decline argues for patience rather than bargain-hunting until there is evidence that memory-component costs are stabilizing. Investors should watch whether gross margin recovers from 45.7% in Q4, whether Zebra hits the $5.00 to $5.40 adjusted EPS guidance range, and whether it delivers on the at least $1 billion free cash flow forecast.
