Buy Precious Metal Mutual Funds? We Don’t Think So!

Based on our investment ratings, there are no BUY (A or B) rated mutual funds with investments in precious metals. Out of 64 rated funds, 53 are a HOLD and 11 a SELL.

Despite spectacular short-term returns over the past year for some funds, they offer a mix of returns over the three and five-year periods. Although they all currently have a positive one-year return, the industry’s one-year average is a negative 1.5 percent , and 16.57 percent over the three-year stretch. The five-year return is negative for all of the funds on the list, ranging from negative 26.8 percent all the way to negative 63.7 percent. A majority of the funds offer too low of a reward for the risk involved.

The live version of the above list allows you to sort each column and add criteria to see additional data points. It is dynamic so it changes as new data becomes available.
