The company operates primarily in the commercial aerospace, defense, and space industries, with its largest revenue driver coming from the Commercial Aircraft segment, which produces passenger jetliners such as the A220, A320neo family, A330neo, A350, and A380 programs. Airbus also maintains substantial operations in military aviation, satellite systems, launch vehicles, cybersecurity, and rotary-wing aircraft through its Airbus Helicopters and Airbus Defence and Space divisions. Its customer base includes commercial airlines, leasing companies, governments, defense ministries, and industrial partners worldwide.

Airbus traces its origins to a European aerospace consortium formed in 1970 by French and German aerospace interests seeking to compete with U.S. aircraft manufacturers. Over subsequent decades, the company expanded through mergers involving Aerospatiale-Matra, DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG, and CASA, leading to the formation of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) in 2000. The group rebranded as Airbus Group in 2014 and later adopted the name Airbus SE in 2017. Airbus is widely recognized for its global manufacturing footprint, strong order backlog, fuel-efficient aircraft platforms, and strategic role in European aerospace and defense capabilities.
