Salesforce, Inc. (CRM) Down 5.2% — Time to Hit Pause on This Stock?

  • CRM fell 5.23% to $229.44 from $242.11 the previous trading day
  • Weiss Ratings assigns C (Hold)
  • Market cap is $199.26B with a dividend yield of 0.72%

Salesforce, Inc. (CRM) is under heavy pressure this Thursday and is currently trading at $229.44 on the NYSE, down $12.67 from the prior close of $242.11. The decline extends a stretch of underperformance. CRM now sits about 14.7% below its 52-week high of $269.11, set on December 29, 2025, and the market has steadily pulled back from the optimism that carried shares to that level as the year turned.

Turnover so far is light. About 2.92 million shares have changed hands against a 90-day average of roughly 12.40 million, which means intraday volume is running at about a quarter of a typical full session while the market remains open.

Why Salesforce, Inc. Price is Moving Lower

The selling is coming from across the software group rather than from anything Salesforce reported, and the trigger was ServiceNow's quarterly report on October 28. ServiceNow (NOW) posted revenue of $4.11 billion, slightly ahead of the $4.09 billion consensus, but adjusted EPS of $1.00 missed the $1.02 estimate. The bigger problem was the outlook. ServiceNow guided Q4 current remaining performance obligation growth to 18.5%, down from 21% in Q3, and that deceleration in contracted subscription revenue rattled investors who had been paying premium multiples for enterprise software growth. ServiceNow fell about 19% in morning trading on Thursday. Workday (WDAY) dropped about 5%, the Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) lost about 5%, and the SPDR ETF (SPY) slipped only about 0.5%. A software index falling ten times as much as the broader market points to pressure concentrated in software rather than a general risk-off day.

Other results added to the damage. Fortinet (FTNT) has suffered a steep decline after its results failed to satisfy investors, and security names followed it lower. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (PANW) fell 4.92% and CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (CRWD) lost 3.02%. Oracle Corporation (ORCL) declined 3.32%. Investors are treating these reports as a warning about enterprise software budgets and about how quickly AI products can turn into revenue, and that question matters for Salesforce, which has built much of its growth case on Agentforce and its broader AI platform.

Salesforce's own most recent results were solid, and that is part of why the move looks like a sector repricing. For Q2 of fiscal 2027, reported on August 26, revenue came in at $11.345 billion. That was up 10.8% year over year and above the $11.32 billion consensus. Non-GAAP EPS of $5.90 far exceeded the $3.27 estimate, although gains on strategic investments inflated the figure, so the beat overstates the operating improvement. Management raised its fiscal 2027 revenue outlook to $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion. With shares trading at 22.07 times forward earnings, the stock is not priced for perfection. Still, investors are clearly reluctant to hold any enterprise software name while a peer of ServiceNow's standing signals that subscription growth is cooling.

What is the Salesforce, Inc. Rating - Should I Sell?

Weiss Ratings assigns CRM a C rating. Current recommendation is Hold. That rating describes a business with strong fundamentals whose stock has not rewarded shareholders lately, and today's sector-driven decline shows that gap clearly.

The fundamental case is strong. The Excellent rating on the Growth Index reflects 10.83% revenue growth, which is double-digit expansion at a company with a market value near $200 billion. The raised fiscal 2027 guidance suggests management sees that pace holding. The Efficiency Index is also rated Excellent, supported by a 21.99% profit margin and a 19.38% ROE. Those figures show a company that has moved well beyond its earlier habit of growing revenue at the expense of earnings and now turns its large subscription base into real profit. The Good rating on the Solvency Index adds to the picture, since the balance sheet can fund continued AI investment and shareholder returns without strain.

The picture changes on the market-facing dimensions. Salesforce is rated Weak on both the Total Return Index and the Volatility Index. A stock nearly 15% below its December 2025 peak has given holders little over the measurement period, and a drop of more than 5% in one session because of a competitor's guidance shows why the Volatility Index is not rated higher. The Fair Dividend Index reflects a 0.72% yield. The payout is a newer feature of the Salesforce story, and it is too modest to cushion a decline like today's. These weaker ratings keep the overall rating at C despite the strength in growth and efficiency.

Within the Information Technology sector, Salesforce is on par with Oracle Corporation (ORCL, C), Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (PANW, C), and CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (CRWD, C). All three are also lower today. International Business Machines Corporation (IBM, C+) holds a slightly better rating and is up 0.61% this session. Its more diversified, services-heavy mix appears to be shielding it from the selling in subscription software.

About Salesforce, Inc.

Salesforce, Inc. (CRM) is an Information Technology company and the largest provider of customer relationship management software in the world. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in San Francisco, the company pioneered the delivery of enterprise applications over the cloud on a subscription basis. That model is now standard across business software. Its customers range from small businesses to the largest global enterprises and government agencies, across virtually every industry and region.

The product portfolio covers the full customer relationship. Sales Cloud manages pipelines and forecasting, Service Cloud handles customer support operations, and Marketing Cloud and Commerce Cloud support campaign management and digital storefronts. Salesforce has broadened the platform through acquisitions. Slack provides workplace collaboration, Tableau delivers analytics and visualization, and MuleSoft connects data across applications and systems. Its Data Cloud unifies customer information across these products, and Agentforce, the company's AI agent platform, is designed to automate sales, service, and marketing tasks on top of that data.

Salesforce's competitive advantage comes from its installed base and the high cost of switching away from it. Once an enterprise builds workflows, integrations, and years of customer data on the platform, replacing it becomes expensive and disruptive, which supports durable recurring revenue. A large ecosystem of consulting partners, independent software vendors, and certified administrators makes the platform harder to dislodge. The company faces strong competition from Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, ServiceNow, and a growing field of AI-native challengers, and its ability to show that AI agents generate meaningful new revenue will shape its competitive position over the coming years.

Investor Outlook

Salesforce, Inc. (CRM) carries a Weiss Rating of C (Hold), and today's decline is a reminder that solid company-level results do not protect the stock when sentiment toward enterprise software turns. Investors should watch whether Salesforce's next quarterly report shows remaining performance obligation growth holding up better than ServiceNow's, whether Agentforce adoption turns into measurable revenue, and whether the company stays on track for its $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion fiscal 2027 revenue outlook.
