Investment Strategy
The investment seeks to provide as high a level of current income as is consistent with the preservation of capital through exclusive investment in the Class 1 shares of the American Funds Insurance Series® - The Bond Fund of America® ("master fund"). The fund operates as a "feeder fund" and seeks to achieve its goal by investing all of its assets in Class 1 shares of the master fund. The master fund seeks to maximize the level of current income and preserve capital by investing primarily in bonds. Normally, the master fund invests at least 80% of its assets in bonds and other debt securities, which may be represented by derivatives.
