The investment seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation and current income. The fund typically invests 40% to 75% of its assets in equity securities selected primarily for their growth potential and 25% to 60% of its assets in equity and fixed income securities selected primarily for their income potential. It principally invests in a combination of equity and fixed income securities (including securities issued, backed or otherwise guaranteed by the U.S. government or its agencies, securities issued by U.S. government-sponsored entities, corporate bonds, municipal bonds, and other taxable debt securities).
