Braskem S.A. is a Brazil-based petrochemical company and one of the largest thermoplastic resin producers in the Americas. The company operates across the chemicals and plastics value chain, producing petrochemicals, thermoplastic resins, and industrial chemicals used in packaging, consumer goods, automotive components, construction materials, and agricultural applications. Braskem’s core revenue drivers include polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), caustic soda, and other basic petrochemical products derived from naphtha, ethane, propane, and renewable feedstocks. The company serves industrial manufacturers, converters, distributors, and consumer product companies across multiple end markets.

Braskem was formed in 2002 through the consolidation of several Brazilian petrochemical assets associated with the Odebrecht Group and later expanded through acquisitions and international investments. The company strengthened its global position through the acquisition of Quattor in 2010 and the purchase of polypropylene assets from Sunoco Chemicals in the United States. Braskem is also recognized for developing bio-based plastics, particularly “green polyethylene” produced from sugarcane ethanol, which has differentiated the company within the sustainable materials market.
