While Bitcoin (BTC, “A-”) has seen wild swings this month, prediction markets are having their Netflix moment.
Rain Protocol (RAIN, Not Yet Rated), for example, saw its token price double in 24 hours earlier this week!
Rain is a new prediction market that’s drafting behind competitor Polymarket's monster success.
I’ve written about Polymarket before.
It’s the on-chain predictive market where you can bet on anything from the future price of BTC to the outcome of a presidential election.
It’s seen $3 billion in monthly volume and 440,000 new monthly accounts, surpassing even January’s numbers. That’s when everyone and their mother seemed to be betting on President Trump's first actions in office.
The message is clear: Prediction markets are the next big thing.
The caveat with Polymarket?
It doesn’t have a coin. So you’ll have to look elsewhere if you want to ride this narrative.
And Rain is shaping up to be an impressive competitor.
Its pitch is aggressive: a fully decentralized platform where all you need is $10 and you can create any market. Then, Rain’s AI oracle can handle all resolution automatically.
Its 5% fee is higher than Polymarket's 2%. But the additional cost goes directly to funding token burns.
And the platform is pushing beyond simple predictions into incentive markets — where communities can pool capital to make outcomes happen.
It also offers private betting for those who prefer discretion.
Key backing suggests this isn't just another token pump, either.
Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi just joined the board of Enlivex Therapeutics (ENLV). And that micro-cap biotech executed a $212 million treasury allocation into RAIN.
When ex-PMs and biotech treasuries start betting on prediction markets, it's not just degen speculation anymore.
There’s something of substance happening here.
The deeper play might be the oracle infrastructure itself.
Rain's Olympus AI scans independent sources to verify outcomes, with human oracles as the final backstop for disputed results.
After prediction markets embarrassed pollsters in the election, its likely to graduate from gambling … to the infrastructure for crowdsourced truth.
This project is still in its early days. But growth investors and trend traders may want to keep RAIN on their radars.
Best,
