Niches in NFT Art Mean Big Gains

Despite the bear market in digital assets this year, a number of NFT projects are soaring in value. Some are even breaking new ground in the sector.

In this segment, you’ll see vibrant digital art as currency expert and NFT Analyst Joel Kruger explains what facets of the space are growing, which artists are red-hot and what he looks for when he buys a piece to appreciate over time. One recent recommendation has already shot up 181%!

Jessica Borg (narration): The No. 1 rule in investing in NFT art: Love what you own.

JB: Joel, you are a big proponent of feeling passionate about any piece that you buy.

Joel Kruger: If you’re in the game just to collect something that you don’t love, and then you have the expectation that it’s just about financial reward, then you’re probably going to be let down.

But if you collect art that you love, you’re always going to have value. There’s also going to be that added bonus from an appreciation in the asset.

JB (narration): Currency expert Joel Kruger has seen those bonuses in NFT Wealth Builder this year.

Despite a bear market in crypto, a number of NFT projects have appreciated in value, like Gazers by artist Matt Kane.

It’s up 181% since Joel recommended it.

JK: I think a lot about how these artists are doing something different with these projects. They’re pushing the limits.

A lot of it comes from being a successful trader over the years and knowing how to look at things and analyze markets and see where there might be value, even in conditions that might be challenging.

JB (narration): He recognized the value early on in Chromie Squiggles. It was the first project on the successful platform, Art Blocks, which is focused on generative art.

JK: Chromie Squiggles are simple, but they’re just so interesting. They incorporate the full color spectrum into the works. They’re also the genesis of that platform.

So, there’s some historical significance around that project, too, which I thought about when recommending them. I think when I recommended them, they were around five Ether (ETH), and now they are substantially higher. So, yeah it does feel good.

JB (narration): Five ETH over the summer was less than $7,000. Now, the cheapest Chromie Squiggle is nearly 17 ETH, or about $27,000.

JK: It does seem that there are certain projects that have really outperformed and that are up significantly right now, on a cryptocurrency basis and on a dollar basis.

Part of that is also recognizing these things early enough, so even if there’s a pullback, I’m still way ahead of the game.

Even what’s underperforming right now — relative to the rest of the market, I think we’ve significantly outperformed — but even the stuff in our portfolio that’s not doing as well, everything that I’ve recommended, whether it’s a project or an artist, is exceptionally active and they continue to produce.

JB (narration): Joel is attracted to any facet of the space that evokes emotion.

JB: Tell us about pixel art, and why it’s something that you gravitated toward.

JK: What’s so great about pixel art is it’s all about working with extreme limitation. It’s all about, in my opinion, working with nothing to create beauty.

You’re working with these small, pixelated cells, and you’re putting them all together to create an image, and to me that’s extraordinary.

JB (narration): One pixel artist that’s captured his attention goes by the name Khaled.

JK: All of them have a subtle animation, whether it’s a water movement or a twinkle in the sky from the stars, or it’s lights from the cityscape.

The scenes that he sets have a nostalgia to them, and there’s a familiarity to them. You are just drawn into them, and you can lose yourself in them. They’re whimsical.

JB (narration): He says the scenes are an homage to everyday life.

JK: It takes the common and the mundane, and it elevates them to a place of beauty, where we’re honoring the every day.

We live in a world where we’re always thinking about the grandiose — what we’re going to do and where are we going to go, and what’s the next thing — and yet, here we are living in these moments where we’re surrounded by all this beauty and are kind of lonely without recognizing them.

JB (narration): Aim to find those collections you feel immersed in.

JK: What stands out when you find an artist that you connect with is that they have a unique visual language. They have something that is very specific to them … just like when you hear a certain musician that has a certain sound, you have an appreciation for it because it’s unique and it’s distinct.

JB (narration): Joel is taking his own unique perspectives into this space online, doing live market analysis with folks.

JK: Jessica, this is right in my wheelhouse. This is what I was born to do in many ways. It really comes down to an opportunity for me to take my desire to be creative, to have fun, to entertain a little bit, and then bring in all my trading experience over the years.

I love markets. Anything that’s moving, that’s liquid, that’s deep, that’s active and that you can get in and out of, I’m all for it.

And I love talking to people. The way the show works is I am live and there’s a chat open to all the clients who have access to the show. I’m seeing their comments and their questions and I’m responding in real time, which makes it interactive and fun.

Every day isn’t going to be a trade. Trading is all about a discipline and making yourself better, in my opinion, as a person. It’s a very difficult thing to do, not because it’s intellectually challenging, but because the market is able to exploit our weaknesses in ways that we never thought.

And certain disciplines that you think you might have — it sort of breaks you down. Things that you know you shouldn’t be doing are the things that you end up doing!

And so, to be able to conquer that is really to be able to conquer a lot of the things that are happening inside you that extend beyond just trading in your everyday life.

My hope is that people walk away each day with a smile on their faces and feel that they’ve gotten value from what we’ve done and feel good about their day.

JB (narration): Here’s to good days and good investments.

JB: NFT Analyst Joel Kruger, it is always a great pleasure of mine to get your unique insights. Thank you for making time for me today.

JK: It’s my pleasure. Thank you for having me on, and I look forward to seeing you and talking with you again.

Best wishes,
