It's January, and like clockwork, we're making those same old promises about hitting the gym and cutting back on late-night scrolling through crypto charts.
Ok, that last one may be a bit less universal. But as someone who's spent more time staring at candlestick patterns than I care to admit, I think it's time we made some resolutions that we might actually keep this year.
And no, "becoming a crypto billionaire" isn't one of them (though I’m sure none of us would complain).
So, fellow crypto enthusiasts, grab your hardware wallets and a cup of coffee. Because it’s time to dive into my totally unofficial, slightly irreverent but dead-serious guide to crypto resolutions for 2025.
1. Protect Your Seed Phrase Better
Look, I get it. Remembering complex security protocols is about as fun as watching paint dry.
But if you're still storing your seed phrase in a note on your phone titled "Definitely Not Crypto Stuff," we need to talk.
This year, let's finally adult-up and treat our crypto security like we mean it.
That means keeping your seed phrase offline for maximum safety. I suggest using engravable metal plates like these to record and store your seed phrase securely.
2. Read Those Whitepapers (For Real This Time)
We've all nodded sagely when someone mentions an obscure protocol's tokenomics, pretending we didn't just ape in because of an X (formerly Twitter) thread.
But that’s all in the past.
This year, let's make a pact to actually understand what we're investing in. I'm not saying you need to become a blockchain architect, but I am saying it will be to your benefit to spend more time reading whitepapers … and less time scrolling through crypto memes.
(But let's be real; those memes are pretty good.)
3. Build a Portfolio That Doesn't Give Your Financial Advisor a Heart Attack
“Diversification” isn't just something people say to sound smart at dinner parties. It’s a real feather in an investor’s cap when it comes to their portfolio.
In 2025, let's build portfolios that make sense. Yes, that means not putting your entire life savings into a memecoin because it has "moon" or "Musk" in its name.
Think of it as not putting all your eggs in one digital basket.
Instead, consider exploring different sectors like DeFi, NFTs and Layer-2 solutions in 2025 and adjusting your allocations to maintain responsible levels of exposure to each based on market trends.
4. Master the Art of the HODL
Let's make 2025 the year we develop some emotional intelligence about our investments.
No longer will we subject ourselves to headline hype. Instead, this year will start and end with solid strategies we will stick to, with set exit and stop targets.
This will give you the chance to check prices a little less obsessively. Your mental health (and your phone's battery life) will thank you.
Remember, the best investors are sometimes the ones who forget they even have a crypto wallet.
5. Support the Networks You Believe In (Beyond Just Buying the Token)
If you're bullish on a project, buying the coin could be your first step. This year, challenge yourself to put your mining/staking power where your mouth is and run a node, provide liquidity or contribute to the network's security.
The strength of these networks comes from people like you jumping in and participating. So let 2025 be the year you join them.
Plus, there's something satisfying about knowing you're not just investing in the future of crypto, but actually helping to build it.
6. Stay Informed Without Becoming a News Junkie
The crypto space moves faster than my portfolio during a flash crash, but that doesn't mean you need to have fifteen news alerts set up.
Find reliable sources (like our daily updates and crypto ratings), set up a reasonable information diet and maybe take those Twitter influencer predictions with a grain of salt.
Or a whole shaker.
7. Learn From Your Wins (And Your Losses)
While you should always celebrate your wins, this year, I want to challenge you to take things a step further and learn from them.
Even better, I encourage you to learn from your losses, too.
To get this resolution off the ground, start keeping a crypto journal. Write down your reasoning for each major move, track what worked and why and be brutally honest about what didn't.
Because let's face it. The best traders aren't the ones who never make mistakes. They're the ones who never make the same mistake twice.
The Bottom Line
Most New Year's resolutions don't make it past the first market dip. But the seven outlined above aren’t your typical "new year, new me" promises. They're the foundation to build better habits investment habits.
And unlike your fitness routine, even small steps to incorporate these resolutions can help you make smarter decisions and even have a bit of fun in your crypto investing journey.
So, here's to 2025! May your transactions be swift, your keys remain secure and your portfolio do whatever it is you're hoping it'll do.
Just remember, the best time to start building better crypto habits was yesterday. The second-best time is now (after you finish reading this article, of course).
Stay safe out there, and happy HODLing!
Best,
