This week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced that it was hit with a ransomware attack.1
Officials classified this breach as a “major incident.” And it forced the ATF to shut down systems within its organization.
A day later, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency highlighted a security flaw in a system that protects a nuclear research operation in the Philippines.2
The Hacker News reported the damage done by this attack:
“In all, the threat actor is estimated to have downloaded 176 files totaling about 372 MB from the nuclear research entity and stored them across five staging directories.”
The reason you likely didn’t see headlines about these events is that they happen nearly every day.
But you might see headlines like this one:
There’s big money being spent to get ahead of whatever attacks come next.
Michael A. Robinson gave you a way to get ahead of that cash flow yesterday.
He wrote:
“I want a cyber leader that can protect businesses from the attacks happening every hour of every day — while simultaneously using AI to prepare for the attacks of tomorrow.
“And I believe I’ve found one. The company is Zscaler (ZS).”
Zscaler uses AI to detect potential cyber threats. And it has a large list of multibillion-dollar corporate clients.
You can read what else makes Zscaler worth consideration for your portfolio here.
But what comes after that? What do you need to combat something even more powerful than AI?
For that, you’ll need to grab your spot for our upcoming “Weiss Fall 2026 Private Investment Summit.”
Chris Graebe is a true private investment sleuth.
He doesn’t spend his time analyzing the soon-to-be IPO giants we already know about, which could flop just like SpaceX (SPCX) did following its offering in June.
Instead, he is always looking for the next technology and the next solution to a problem we don’t even know we have yet.
And he found one. He says that soon, Weiss Members can claim early shares in a pre-IPO company at the forefront of a disruption that “eclipses even artificial intelligence in its economic impact.”
He’ll share what he can on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. Eastern. Here’s the info to attend.
Your other editors have other major stories to share. Here’s what they are up to …
Nilus Mattive previewed the most important conflict of the week — how new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh would respond to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s new bond-buying scheme. Nilus concluded that either way, the U.S. government needs to do something else.
The Data Center Freeze That's Boosting REITs
You’ve probably seen the NIMBY stories about data centers. They are finding local opposition to their multibillion-dollar plans. Gavin Magor points to the only real winners in that dynamic.
These 3 Forces Will Fuel Gold's New Bull Run
Gold got a lift midweek. But Sean Brodrick says that’s just the start. “Gold is back, baby!” He has the perfect way to play it.
The Company Nvidia Is Banking On
Nvidia (NVDA) reported earnings this week. And while shares rose on the news, there’s another company Gavin has that is an even bigger winner.
Have a great weekend!
